We stayed up late smoking cigarettes
starting at candle light til it flickered and it faded
Chasing each other through conversations
that were getting us nowhere.
I fell asleep while she was talking.
She didn't want to wake me up by stopping
so she kept on going.
Even though every word she said was stolen
I know they were worth it.
I wish I believed that the memories are all we need
and the here and now is just a metaphor.
For growing up just to end up stuck.
Trying hard not to count on much.
I made my bed but i don't feel like sleeping now
The night dragged on we'd almost given up.
Sick of the same old struggle, the old push and shove.
We both said stupid shit but we were both drunk.
I knew we'd regret it.
I got tired of the fighting and tried to run away.
Made it half way down the stairs and fell flat on my face.
Every chance i had just slipped away and i didn't even notice.
I never do.
